Build India Better: Powering up with Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
India’s place in the world stretches far beyond economics. Its imaginative, heroic, and authentic journey into selfhood, ancient wisdoms, natural landscapes, contributions to the arts, mathematics, science, and technology are all invaluable. Our strength in numbers, can create ripples of change worldwide. Therefore, as the world emerges from the irreconcilable setbacks of the past two years - India, a country united in its pluralities, has an opportunity to lead by example. We can shift paradigms by adopting an approach that integrates gender, equity, diversity, and inclusion, to address exacerbated needs and wider inequalities. This is a clarion call to action: let’s build an India far greater than the sum of its parts, for each of its billion selves.

The Journey is the Destination: Meeting Young Women Where They Are
Philanthropy focused on young women has often been viewed as a catalyst to improve outcomes such as maternal mortality rates and economic development. However, young women continue to face challenges around navigating access to education, being productive citizens, and prioritizing health. As we solve for the complex challenges that form young women’s everyday lived realities, the longstanding rhetoric of funding that focuses on or is justified by positive externalities should be revisited. We must adapt a keen sense of benevolent curiosity and meet young women where they are. This will enable them in building agency and realizing potential on their own terms. Shifting power dynamics to support young women with overcoming challenges can result in intergenerational improvements and gender equity.

Reflections on Dasra's Journey: Decolonizing Philanthropy the India Way
Dasra has been on a mission to unpack the mechanics of social change for the past twenty years, contributing unrelentingly to India’s development story. We the People: Championing Community Leadership
For too long, the most underserved, vulnerable, and marginalized communities have remained missing from leadership positions and conversations about themselves. While community voices have been contributing to the development sector, their true representation encompassing agency, and due acknowledgement, is limited. Representation and involvement through active leadership and participation in program design, delivery, and management, is critical to the realization of a discrimination-free and holistic development agenda. Championing representation can generate cycles of empowerment and diversity of perspectives, key to building solidarity, and transforming our vision of the world. The session will cover several pathways that are strengthening proximate and community leadership, as a foundation for rebuilding the social sector, and spotlight how genuine representation makes all the difference.

Future Forward: Zooming in on Next-Gen Indian Diaspora Givers
In collaboration with Synergos Indian diaspora philanthropists are blurring sector boundaries like never before. Indians comprise the largest diaspora population globally. Historically, the strongest motivator driving philanthropists from the Indian diaspora has been to give back to their native land. However, as the next generation of Indian diaspora philanthropists come to the reins, a paradigm shift is anticipated in their way and motivations for giving. This session will engage the next generation of Indian diaspora philanthropists in a candid conversation to explore their vision for the future, how they anticipate focusing on new ideas that create energy within the Indian diaspora population and beyond, and understanding specific challenges they face now and may face in the future. All Work and Low Pay: Prioritizing Vulnerable Workers
Informal and migrant workers have faced the disproportionate burden of the economic crisis that ripped across the globe owing to the pandemic. Since the onset of Covid-19, these workers were the first ones to be estranged by formal systems and crises responses, especially as countries resorted to complete lockdowns. Their evident misery reflected our collective apathy and ‘business as usual mindsets’, but also encouraged conversations and course correction. Powerful stakeholders are finally acknowledging the importance of worker wellbeing, prioritizing synergies between the future of workers and business, and taking stock of their contribution to wealth generation across economies. This session will focus on such transformative business models and spotlight how these impact dignity and equity for the most marginalized workers.

A Walk on Thin Ice: Factoring in the Human Cost of Climate Change
As philanthropy addresses climate change, adopting the lens of intersectionality is crucial because it allows for a deeper understanding of the human costs. Socio-economic inequalities underscore the harshest experiences of climate change, with marginalized communities shouldering the weight of disasters. Philanthropy needs to invest in systemic solutions that prioritize equity and inclusion for tackling the challenges on ground. At the same time, there is also a need to acknowledge that climate change will impact every aspect of our lives. Thus, solutions to address it require an integrated approach, covering a range of sectors like health, livelihoods, and sanitation. This session will make a compelling case to adopt an intersectional lens and support integrated field-building interventions while giving towards climate change.
