ECO FeMME

Meet the Changemaker


Eco Femme is a hybrid social enterprise working to transform the world-view on menstruation, to make it dignified, healthy and eco friendly. It was founded in 2010 by Kathy Walking and Jessamijn Miedema as part of the Auroville Foundation , which works for the Auroville Bio region and surrounding villages. Eco Femme designs and manufactures high quality reusable cloth washable pads, and encourages the universal use of eco-friendly and healthy menstrual products.


Achievements:
  • Eco Femme has a hybrid business model, with for-profit activities generating revenues to subsidize pad distribution
  • Eco Femme’s international sales in 2013-14 grew >100%, with total income from all sales in 2013-14 at INR 20 Lakhs. For 2013-14, Eco Femme had a profit of INR 5 Lakh – a 25% margin.
  • Eco Femme aims to achieve sales of INR 46 Lakhs in 2014-15
  • Eco Femme reached out to nearly 700 girls in 2013/14, and aims to provide kits to 2351 girls in 2014/15

Kathy Walkling is the co-founder of Eco Femme, a social enterprise with global reach working to promote healthy, dignified, and eco-friendly menstrual hygiene practices. Originally from Australia, Kathy has been based in Auroville since 1997 - an emerging international township in South India.
